In a trailer, SNK producer Yasuyuki Oda and creative director Eisuke Ogura have revealed that series veterans Kyo, Benimaru and Shun’ei are all set to make it into the next game’s roster. Long-time fans of the series will recognize Kyo and the flamboyantly-haired Benimaru from the very first game (and multiple titles since), whilst Shun’ei returns from King of Fighters 14 to lead the charge in the story for this instalment. We’ve yet to see any actual gameplay footage for the game, but the trailer above at least gives us a good look at the art style we can expect from the 15th mainline entry in the erstwhile fighting series. KOF15 “will differ greatly” from 2016’s ill-fated King of Fighters 14 according to Ogura, and this upcoming installment in the long-running series will be “most ambitious KOF yet.” More information is promised for January 2021. Though the game was originally shown back at Evo 19, we’ve heard very little about the title since. Recently, we did hear that the Mohammad bin Salman Charity Foundation is set to acquire a controlling stake in SNK, which cast some doubt over the status of King of Fighters XV. This new reveal seems well-timed, as if SNK is eager to show the game is still in the works and that development is progressing smoothly on title – despite these new revelations.
