The developer of Surgeon Simulator Bossa Studios is making a number of staff redundant. As reported by Eurogamer, 10 employees are set to be made redundant, down from the 13 that were initially to be cut. This comes as Bossa re-evaluates its priorities as a studio. “The other thing about fundamental change is that not everyone agrees with it, and that’s alright the world would be a much more dull place if we all agreed on everything,” Bossa said in a statement....

The Switch Pro rumours are circling again, and maybe this is the year we finally see it release. As always, the supposed upgrades over the existing Switch (which has already seen a small revision to improve battery life and an entirely handheld version in the Switch Lite), aren’t enough for everyone. Key points to note are that the handheld’s screen is being enlarged to a seven-inch OLED, but that its resolution is remaining 720p - which should actually be plenty when you calculate the pixel density on a screen that small....

Nintendo has this morning published earnings results for its Q3 FY3/2021. The period covering October to December 2020 saw a massive 37.3% year-on-year increase in revenue, which translates to 1,404 billion yen. This makes it Nintendo’s second-best quarter ever in company history, second only to Q3 FY2008 when Nintendo had two massively popular consoles in the Wii and DS (Thanks, Daniel Ahmad). Unsurprisingly, the success in Q3 was largely driven by Switch hardware and software sales....

You will be able to pre-order System Shock remake through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store. This will be accompanied by a final demo which will include the medical level, cyberspace level, full dismemberment, all newly recorded voice lines, and plenty of additional features and polish. Nightdive Studios said it will still be working to improve on the experience the game gets closer to launch. Console versions of the demo will come later....

This officially licensed Nintendo Switch SD card would usually set you back in the region of about $30, so it’s not a bad freebie. Especially one that gives a solid boost to your console’s storage capacity for game installs and downloads. Of course, though, that has to come alongside buying two full-price $60 Switch games, which is a hefty chunk of change. Nevertheless, games available in the promotion include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 2....

Dontnod, perhaps best known for developing narrative games like Life is Strange and Tell Me Why, announced that it is raising $48.5 million in order to stay independent and keep self-publishing its releases (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz). Roughly $36.3 million of that figure has been raised from Tencent, an investment that will give the Chinese tech company a minority stake in the development studio. “We are delighted to welcome Tencent as a Dontnod investor,” reads a statement from Dontnod CEO and chairman Oskar Guilbert....

The Chant was announced today as one of the key titles published under Prime Matter, Koch Media’s new game label. In development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, the game is due for release in 2022. The Chant is a third-person horror game with an unusual setting. The game takes place at a spiritual retreat, hosted by a new age cult. The remote island they picked for this has its own twisted past, and it all ends up awakening some long forgotten Lovercraftian terrors....

The Day Before, whose gameplay footage seems reminiscent of triple-A behemoths like The Division and The Last of Us, is a massively multiplayer online survival game set in the dystopia of a post-pandemic America (a little close to home right now, eh?) “The Day Before is an open-world massively multiplayer online survival set in a deadly, post-pandemic America overrun by flesh-hungry infected and survivors killing each other for food, weapons, and cars,” reads a description of the game....

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Last of Us will now go into production. Back in March, it was announced the Naughty Dog developed title was getting its own HBO series. It is being helmed by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and executive produced and written by Neil Druckmann. Druckmann and Mazin will executive produce alongside Carolyn Strauss (Chernobyl, Game of Thrones), Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells, and PlayStation Productions’ Qizilbash and Carter Swan....

Starting with a spring update, Bethesda intends to breathe a little bit of new life into the oft-troubled Fallout 76 over the next 12 months, and it’s started to tease a little bit of what we can expect from the coming weeks and months. In Spring, we can expect to see Special loadouts, camp slots, mannequins, daily ops expansion, crafting sliders, and – perhaps controversially – aim-assist on console. According to a GamesBeat report, however, the reason behind this seemingly unlikely partnership is not hard to understand. The Initiative is reportedly ready to ramp up production on Perfect Dark, after years of prototyping. Unfortunately, the team simply isn’t large enough to support this endeavour. Working on the ambitious game has also slowed down under the pandemic, and made it more difficult for The Initiative to hire the right people to get it done....
