Embracer Group has acquired US-based Saber Interactive in a deal worth $525 million, according to a company press release. According to the regulatory notice, the purchase price includes “an initial consideration” of $150 million, plus an earn-out consideration, subject to fulfillment of agreed milestones, of a maximum $375 million. Saber Interactive’s co-founders and owners, Matthew Karch and Andrey Iones, will also become the second-largest shareholder. The studio most recently developed the Switch port of The Witcher 3 and developed World War Z, which sold more than three million units....
Titled Make It Count, the Empire of Sin expansion will introduce a new boss, Meyer “the Accountant” Lansky. It will also introduce new gangsters called “the Fixers,” and their Loan Sharking Racket. This is the first major content expansion for the game since its launch last year and builds upon the base game to offer additional content and gameplay options. I tried at launch, after never really getting into these uber-hard action-RPG exercises in self-flagellation. It didn’t click. I didn’t even make it through to Father Gascoigne. Back on PS4 and PS4 Pro, I was promised a patch had made loading times better and that the hardware would offset some of the rougher edges in the game....
The announcement was made by both Epic Games and Cubic Motion yesterday. Cubic Motion is responsible for creating automated performance-driven facial animation for titles such as God of War, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Anthem, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Metro Exodus, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Call of Duty: WW2 and others. It also creates real-time demonstrations such as the Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice live character performances at GDC 2016 and the League of Legends live character performance of Akali during the LoL Pro League....
The Epic Online Services, a suite of tools Epic Games developed for Fortnite, are being made available to all developers individually or as a whole. Epic Online Services include friends list, matchmaking, lobbies, leaderboards and system-agnostic accounts. Epic has been using them with Fortnite across all platforms, so they’re very proven. The services will be made available in a multiplatform SDK, free to Unreal Engine developers. Epic says because you can pick and choose, you’ll be able to use what you pick alongside your existing, in-house services....
For those not in the know, rollback netcode has kind of been the hot topic over the past few years (although arguably it’s been heating up for over a decade now), reaching its burning point during the worldwide COVID-19 lockdowns. While before a large chunk of games struggled to match you up with opponents online without lag, dropped frames, or teleporting, we’ve now seen a vast selection of games past present and future featuring this improved netcode moving forward....
Far Cry is a first-person series. That’s been well established over the course of five numbered games and three spin-offs. Ubisoft even experimented with the first-person view to great effect in the series – drug-induced hallucinations, agency takeover and more have been deployed at times to make for compelling, immersive narrative and gameplay beats. But all that could be set to change in Fary Cry 6. In an interview with Gamespot, Far Cry 6’s narrative director Navid Khavari outlined why the company is eager to use the third-person perspective more in the latest entry of the long-running series....

That tale of horrifying failure and improbable, wonderful redemption has granted FF14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida legendary status in the industry. Yoshida is now also producer of Final Fantasy 16, but he’s still absolutely focused on FF14 too, and is currently in the process of bringing home Endwalker, the fourth full expansion to FF14....
Epic has today announced the launch of five new PC apps on the Epic Games Store. The digital store now even has a dedicated directory for apps. Customers can buy or freely download Itch.io, Brave, KenShape, Krita, and iHeartRadio - all available alongside Spotify, which joined the Epic Store in December. Itch.io, of course, is the DRM-free indie game store. Brave is an open-source web browser. KenShape is a 3D model generator....
Just like Rainbow Six Siege before it, Ubisoft announced that For Honor is moving in a similar direction with its Year 4 of live service. This year, For Honor players will get two new heroes, a drop from Year 3 and Year 2’s four heroes. It is not clear how the new heroes will be acquired, because Ubisoft is getting rid of the yearly season pass as well - which previously guaranteed access to upcoming heroes....

Thor is the first skin you can unlock and once you reach Level 22, you’ll get Jennifer Walters, who’s alter ego is She-Hulk. To complete this challenge, you’ll need to have unlocked and be wearing the Jennifer Walters skin at all times, otherwise, you’re just farting about for no reason. Much like Thor, you’ll unlock a new built-in emote for Jennifer which will allow you to transform into She-hulk at will....

Frictional Games, the studio which brought us Amnesia: The Dark Descent, has dropped another teaser for its new game in the works. Like the last two teasers, this video is unlisted on the studio’s YouTube channel. Called “I am Tasi” the video doesn’t show much more than what appears to be a desert, alien landscape. Of course, going by the frantic voice you hear, it could be a nightmare, illusion, or another plane of reality....

Gearbox has both a development wing and a publishing arm. It is unclear whether all nine games are in development with Gearbox Software, or are being published by Gearbox Publishing as Embracer did not clarify. Embracer acquired Gearbox in February 2021 for $1.3 billion. It was announced that the funds will allow the studio to expand to develop more games and grow its publishing business in North America. The Borderlands IP is still owned by Gearbox and the studio will continue to work with publisher 2K Games on the franchise....
