It’s been almost seven years since the Xbox One was released into the wild and even though we were treated to a spectacular upgrade with the Xbox One X, Microsoft has decided the time is ripe to unleash another behemoth into the market. There’s not much longer to wait to get your hands on the Xbox Series X and pre-orders will be available soon. More launch titles will be announced as the year progresses, but we know of a few already, namely Halo Infinite and a new Fable game....

A significant amount of contemporary games are still built in ways that make them less accessible to large amounts of people. One of the core tenets of design pertaining to this is subtitles, which make games far more approachable for people who are aurally impaired. After the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account posted a screenshot of a character, one fan replied by asking why the subtitles were so small. You can check out the exchange below....

The news comes from an interview conducted by Polish site Spider’s Web, during which Cyberpunk 2077 lead quest designer Pawel Sasko confirmed that you can finish the game without completing its main quest. “We built the Cyberpunk structure based on the conclusions we drew from The Witcher 3,” said Sasko. “The Witcher had the main stem of history and side threads departing from it, and this was our main structure, which we call the ear....

Dying Light’s recently-announced Switch port was supposed to go live yesterday, October 19, but frustrated players in EU regions noticed it never got listed on the Switch’s digital storefront. In a post over on Reddit, a member of the dvelopment team at Techland explained why the game is only available physically in some EU regions. “If you’re talking about the digital version, then due to nature of content the digital version of the game is currently banned in Germany where European e-Shop is officially registered,” they explained....

Zombie Army 4: Dead War, Rebellion’s zombie shooter, launched this week to a decent critical reception. It’s a fun, if predictable shooter, but no one expected this spooky feature. If you pause the game and set down your controller for a few seconds, a voice comes out of the DualShock 4 speaker that creepily asks you to come back and play with it. It sounds like a zombie, honestly, and it’s enough to fright anyone in the room, especially if they didn’t know/remember the controller has a built-in speaker....

Outriders gives you so many reasons to dislike it, especially in the opening hours. Honestly, it seems like for every good thing it does, it gives you three bad in return. This is not a good ratio to have but I gave it a chance anyway, and ended up liking the game more than I expected to. I approached Outriders with the lowest expectations I’ve ever had while playing a new looter shooter, (let’s just say games like Godfall left a bitter taste in my mouth) so none of Outriders’ issues surprised....

Fractured Byte, one of the development teams behind Borderlands Legendary Collection on Switch, has posted a new job opening that hints at a Borderlands 3 port being in the works for Switch. Although the job listing, dug up by YouTuber Doctre81, mentions experience with Unreal Engine 3 - Borderlands 3 is an Unreal Engine 4 game, it does point to the studio’s Legendary Collection. Outside of requiring experience with shooters, it specifically asks for people to help “ship games like Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2 for Nintendo Switch,” and links to Digital Foundry’s technical analysis of the Switch port, seemingly as a point of pride....

Twitter user AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, who previously accurately predicted the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake, claims a first-person Resident Evil 8 is slated to hit in 2021 and will feature “serious departures” from the mainline series. According to Golem, Resident Evil 8 was initially being developed as a third Resident Evil Revelations game before being shifted over to the main series following positive feedback from playtesters. Golem also adds that Resident Evil 8 will “be first-person, and many purists are going to hate it because it’s taking some serious departures in the story/enemies and the like....

While games have kind of featured here and there at the Grammys in previous years (Austin Wintory won one for Journey), there hasn’t been an award solely dedicated to video games. That’s different this year though! And who won the first ever award? Stephanie Economou, for her work on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and its Dawn of Ragnarok expansion. This does come with the asterisk that the presenter, comedian Randy Rainbow, kind of biffed the pronunciation of Valhalla, but hey, an award’s an award....

Activision has said it is currently “evaluating” additional platforms for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. In a statement to PCgamesN, a company spokesperson said the company is “still evaluating additional platforms for a future date,” and to stay tuned for more information at a future date. At present, the game has only been announced for PS4 and Xbox One, and hopefully after things are evaluated, PC and Switch users won’t be left out....

Activision Blizzard has announced letting go of about 50 staff across its esports teams, affecting the people behind the Overwatch League, and the Call of Duty League. The decision, according to president of sports & entertainment, Tony Petitti, was made to better align the company for a future where face-to-face events are not the norm. “We learned a lot last year in terms of how the leagues can be structured for online play, and we’ll look to carry forward the best practices from that,” Petitti told Sports Business Journal....

In a revealing summary of its Q3 fortunes, the language used throughout the financial report refers to each of the arms of Activision Blizzard – Activision, Blizzard, and King – as “segments”, making tracking where the money comes from much easier than it normally would. In short, Activision Blizzard’s net revenue grew from $1.95 billion in Q3 2020 to $2.07 billion in this year’s Q3. But where the money comes from is the interesting part....

Epic Games Store’s Twitter account announced that Alien: Isolation is free to claim and keep if you log into the storefront and add it to your account before December 22 at 8am PT /11am ET / 4pm GMT. The initial announcement managed to crash Epic’s storefront thanks to the popularity of the licensed stealth-horror jaunt. The store is back up and working now – and if you click through, you’ll also find 75% off the game’s add-on content, too....

Since the Nintendo Switch launched back in 2017, Animal Crossing fans have been begging for a game to be released and they finally got their wish towards the end of last year. Not only will you be able to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your TV, but you’ll also be able to invite several players to join your game and play together. For those who’ve never played an Animal Crossing game before, get ready to lose several dozen hours of your life to it, or at least remember to check in on your loved ones and bring them some tea if they’ve been playing it nonstop....

Alongside growing and gathering fruits, there’s a new currency you can use to visit new islands: Nook Miles. You can earn Nook Miles by completing various quests and after you’ve collected 2000 of them you’ll be able to buy a Nook Miles Ticket that you can use for travel. You can also use Nook Miles at the ATM terminal to get unique unlocks, and you can also earn Nook Miles+ daily rewards while you’re at it....

More players are being banned from Call of Duty: Warzone for cheating. That’s going by a tweet from developer Raven Software, which said that it was “stepping up anti-cheat efforts” in the free-to-play battle royale title. The studio said that there was more information to come, no doubt meaning the firm will be showing off just how many bad actors it took out this time around. This news comes as Raven takes over from Treyarch in managing Warzone....

Data miners thought they had the next character for Apex Legends figured out earlier this year, but it turns out, Forge was a misdirect created by Respawn Entertainment. According to Respawn design director Jason McCord, in order to thwart data miners and keep the next character, Revenant, a surprise, the team intentionally inserted fake concept art and details on Forge in patches. “Honestly, it started as a fun way to misdirect data miners who, at the time, felt like they had solved our next legend and had ruined our surprise,” McCord told Dot Esports....

The mobile version of the hit battle royale – which just today announced a new character for Season 9 – will be a “new version of Apex Legends, but it’s true to the original”. “This is a huge moment for our team. Two years ago we changed the landscape of the battle royale genre, and now we’re aiming to do it again on mobile,” says Chad Grenier, game director at Respawn....
