New documents circulating online (thanks, Gamespot) seem to suggest that the next-gen sports title might not hit the shelves until as late as July 2023. Matt Brown, college sports reporter extraordinaire, has managed to obtain records from the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) that pins the EA Sports release window to summer 2023. The announcement created a wave of shock amongst fans, not just because of what Sony cited as the reasons behind this unusual decision, but also because of the implications it could have on the wider industry - including rival Xbox. Well, it looks like - for now at least - Microsoft is not contemplating a similar price hike for Xbox Series X or Series S. A Microsoft spokesperson told Windows Central that the prices of both consoles will remain as they are today in USD, EUR, and GBP....

Infinity Ward confirmed that this weekend in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare double XP, weapon XP and tier progression will be activated. As with all weekend events, the the bonuses go live at 10am PT, 1pm ET, 6pm UK on Friday. This is good timing, too, because Modern Warfare just got a playlist update earlier today. The update replaces Shoot the Ship with a Shipment (5v5) exclusive playlist, and another for Shoot House (8v8)....

First and foremost was the announcement of Dragon Quest 12. Square Enix has revealed that the first mainline entry in the role-playing game series since 2017 is going to be much different in tone from its numerous predecessors. Fully titled Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, series creator Yuji Horii suggested that the title will make some changes to the traditional turn-based battle system and will be more directed at adults....

E3 will make its long-awaited return to its now-traditional home of Los Angeles Convention Center in the second week of June, 2023 (that’s roughly June 11-17). Once again, the event will be overseen by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), who will partner with ReedPop – a production company you may recognise as the name behind PAX, New York Comic Con, Star Wars Celebration, and other large-scale events. As for what to expect from the event, it’s the same as E3 ever was: the ESA and ReedPop promise a week of triple-A game reveals, premieres of new titles, and exclusive access to games for attendees....

EA has delisted its legacy Need For Speed games, leaving you unable to purchase Need For Speed: Carbon, Shift, Shift 2: Unleashed, Undercover, and The Run via Xbox Live, PSN and other online stores. The announcement was made on a Bank Holiday in the UK and on Memorial Day in the US, and it almost seems like EA wanted it to pass by without too much uproar. EA has said that the games will remain available to play if they are already owned, but as of yesterday (May 31) buying any of the games listed above from online storefronts is impossible....

Battle passes are here to stay; that’s no secret. Whether you’re an avid player of Destiny 2, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Halo, Fall Guys, or just about any other game at the moment, you’ll have been subjected to a battle pass. EB Games in Australia will now offer those who purchased Fallout 76 through the retailer a refund if requested. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) made this “court-enforceable” so the retailer now promises to refund those who requested their money back during the game’s first year of release. According to customers, EB Games said they were not entitled to a refund, but the chain now admits it was likely to have “misled consumers” regarding Fallout 76’s issues when it launched (thanks, GI....

For a lot of players, you’ll typically find a powerful weapon of sorts (or find that you suck at dodging attacks, like myself) and you’ll craft your build around that. For others, you might have an idea in mind for your character - a powerful mage, a brute-strength slayer, a vampirical leech, or something beyond that. Whatever weapon you’ve become attached to or character you’ve got stored in your head-canon, there’s likely a build for it in Elden Ring....

Publisher Bandai Namco has yet to announce the game’s official launch sales (it’s going to be easily above 1,000,000 at launch if the PC numbers alone are anything to go by), but we’ve seen a massive success just from Steam alone, at this point. On launch day, Elden Ring hit a peak concurrent player count on Steam of a whopping 764,835 players, per SteamDB. When you consider that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has an all-time peak of 125,315 players, and Dark Souls 3 has 129,975 players, you can see just how heady these numbers are on PC....

The patch was deployed today, so you will want to make sure you update your game. On PC, the patch fixes an issue where the graphics card was not being used, resulting in slow performance. A bug that caused the game to quit under certain conditions during a battle with the Fire Giant was addressed, and other bugs were squashed. For PS5, the patch made changes to save game progression even when the game is not terminated....

According to the NPD, total videogame industry spending declined 11% year-over-year (yoy) to $4.3 billion despite growth in subscription spending. Year-to-date spending declined 10% to $26.3 billion compared to June 2021. For the month of June, hardware spending fell 8% yoy to $371 million, and console spending reached $2.1 billion, a 9% yoy decline. PlayStation 5 generated the highest dollar sales for the first half of the year and for June, with Switch leading in both periods in unit sales....

The temporary suspension comes in the wake of worldwide lockdowns to level the spread of COVID-19, resulting in many being out of work and unable to pay in-game subscription costs. “Taking into account the world-wide spread of the COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”) and the economical effects of various cities going into lock-down, we have decided to temporarily suspend automatic housing demolition,” reads a statement from Square Enix. In Final Fantasy 14, players can purchase in-game plots of land and develop a digital homestead - however, players are also required to log-in semi-regularly to keep their house from being flagged as inactive and, after 45 days, ready for demolition....

A new report from Fanbyte has shed some more details on the rumored new Final Fantasy project reportedly in development at Nioh, Final Fantasy Dissidia NT, and Ninja Gaiden developer, Team Ninja. We heard whispers about the game via Square Enix insider Navtra on ResetEra yesterday, where it was suggested that Square Enix’s E3 show would offer up more details about the project. Now, as per Fanbyte, we’ve learned that the game is called Final Fantasy Origin and “will be exclusive to PlayStation 5 with a PC release further down the road”....

It’s been almost 12 years, and you’d still be hard-pushed to find a third-person shooter that looks as good in motion as Vanquish. Released a year after Bayonetta, Vanquish has mostly served as an idiosyncratic footnote in the softography of action gaming masters PlatinumGames, albeit briefly sharing the spotlight with Hideki Kamiya’s gun-toting witch as part of a 10th Anniversary Bundle in 2020. And while Kamiya’s series has gone on to spawn a sequel – with Bayonetta 3 scheduled to come out sometime in the next decade-or-so – Vanquish has been mostly forgotten....
