For the longest time, Fortnite developer Epic Games wasn’t interested in paying a 30% cut to Google by making the game available on the Play Store, so the company simply never released it there. Fortnite has been available on Android since then, of course, but only through Epic’s launcher on Android. Skipping Google Play and asking players to side-load the game obviously lost the developer a lot of potential traffic, but for a while, it didn’t seem to matter....
Official numbers from a Blizzard investor call have confirmed that Overwatch 2 is even more popular than the original, with the oft-lambasted sequel pulling more players into the melee within its first 30 days on sale than Overwatch did back in 2016. “Over 35 million people played the game in its first month, including many who were new to Overwatch,” says Blizzard in its report. “The expanded community is engaging deeply, with average daily player numbers for the first month of Overwatch 2 more than double that of its acclaimed predecessor....
“As more people started using Quest 2, we received reports that a very small percentage of Quest 2 customers were experiencing skin irritation after using the Quest 2 removable foam facial interface,” the company said in a statement on its site. “We’ve been working hard to address the issue, working with experts and making adjustments to our manufacturing process, and communicating proactively with regulators.” This isn’t the first time the issue has come to light, either; previous statements from Facebook around the issue cropped up in December 2020 and April 2021, and it’s taken the company until now to action meaningful steps to mitigate the issue and bring consumers into the fold....

PS5 owners of the game started sharing images of the menus on Twitter, showing the four game modes it contains. The modes are FIFA World Cup Live, FIFA World Cup Kick-Off, Online Tournament, and FIFA World Cup 2022 (via Eurogamer). The images also reveal there will be 48 teams available to play in the mode, which is 16 more than the 32 teams that qualified for the World Cup. This is the second time EA accidentally leaked FIFA 23, as a month before release, Xbox users who pre-loaded the game were able to access the title earlier than planned....
It’s been a pretty electric week in the world of football games – after EA suggested that the FIFA series may drop its now-classic branding, the publisher has trademarked EA Sports FC – hinting at what the future of the series may look like. This apparently happened because FIFA was apparently looking to more than double the cost of its licence, looking at charging EA over $1 billion per every four-year World Cup cycle to retain the FIFA branding....
According to Final Fantasy 16’s very own Naoki Yoshida, both himself and several other lead devs worked on a separate fantasy game that they said was “basically Bloodborne.” This comes from Yoshida’s own biweekly Famitsu column ‘Yoshida Uncensored’, which has been translated by a fan, with the segment discussing this cancelled game highlighted on ResetEra. This Bloodborne-like game was apparently about a year in development before Yoshida, Hiroshi Takai, Kazutoyo Maehiro, and Hiroshi Minagawa, the first three of which were brought on to fix Final Fantasy 14....
As previously revealed, Microsoft is gearing up for a big showcase event taking place sometime in July. The event will focus entirely on first-party, Xbox Game Studios-developed projects. Today on Inside Xbox, the platform holder confirmed that Halo Infinite will indeed be amongst the reveals. Fortnite was featured today as part of an Nvidia showcase where the company revealed the new GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs. Players will be able to experience these features in all Fortnite modes, as well as in a special new Creative mode map, called RTX Treasure Run, which has been “specifically designed” to highlight ray tracing. The game will feature four ray-traced features: Ray-traced reflections – Recreates the way light reflects on glossy and metal surfaces, including smooth natural mirrors like window glass and rougher surfaces like brushed metal....
We’ve had concerts and movie short screenings, but now Epic is hosting a film festival in Fortnite. The Short Nite film festival is being held in the battle royale giant between February 20 at 2pm ET and February 21 at 2pm ET, with 12 animated short films being shown during this time. The event will be taking place in Party Royale, with players able to stop by the Big Screen or watch these movies via Picture-in-Picture mode....

Sophia, the daughter of PlayStation London producer Alexia Christofi, didn’t get her ninth birthday party because of the coronavirus lockdown in the UK. They even did the work to make it feel as real as possible, bringing gifts and setting up confetti poppers, and they all played some hide and seek with little Sophia....
