Speaking in an internal company meeting back in November, information from which was shared with VGC, Wilson reportedly stated that while the company has had a “great relationship with FIFA over the past 30-odd years,” it’s been “a fight” to get FIFA to acknowledge the types of things that the company wants to create. According to Wilson, this is because FIFA says EA’s license “only covers certain categories.” “As we’ve looked to the future we want to grow the franchise, and ironically the FIFA license has actually been an impediment to that,” he said....

Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin, who’s creating The Last of Us HBO series, previously said that it will only fill out the details and expand the world, not take away from what’s already there. In a new interview with BBC’s Must Watch (via Eurogamer), Mazin talked a little bit about what that commitment means in practice. “Our goal is not to keep you in love with The Last of Us, but to make you fall in love with it again in a different way,” said Mazin....

The Last of Us Part 2 has beaten Spider-Man to become the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive, Sony announced today. The game managed to sell over 4 million copies in just three days. The figure likely includes both physical and digital, but Sony did not specify. The previous record-holder, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, was able to sell 3.3 million copies over the same period, itself up from God of War’s 3.1 million. “We are so immensely grateful to the millions of fans around the world that have played The Last of Us Part 2 and shared their experiences with us over the last week,” said director and Naughty Dog VP, Neil Druckmann....

The Lord of the Ring: Gollum will not be released this year after all, and will instead arrive sometime in 2022. Alongside the news, it was announced that NACON and Daedalic Entertainment signed a co-publishing and distribution agreement for the game. The two companies decided to join forces to “ensure that the game will meet the expectations of fans”. In this story-driven action-adventure, you play as Gollum, trying to find his Precious....

Sea of Stars, the new title from indie studio Sabotage, has been funded on Kickstarter and achieved funding in just under seven hours of going live. The game is a turn-based RPG inspired by the 90s classics and is a prequel story set in The Messenger’s universe. With the game being fully funded, Sabotage has outlined the first stretch goal, Single Player +, which will be a free content update....

Dead by Daylight players can now enjoy the Resident Evil chapter which features the release of the Chris Redfield and Claire Redfield Legendary Sets available through the Resident Evil Collection in the in-game store for Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine, respectively. The chapter features Nemesis as the Killer, known in-game as The Tyrant. With his tentacle, he infects the Survivors, making them weaker. Nemesis is accompanied by zombies, the first AI-controlled characters....

Taking place at the Lucca Comics and Games festival in Italy, the show will feature a full symphony concert dedicated entirely to CD Projekt Red’s world famous fantasy franchise. There are actually some impressive names behind the performance that may perk your ears up....

One of these mods is worth a look, as it removes many of the game’s post-processing effects such as sharpness, lens flare, and more. Developed by shawnikaros, other effects removed include sharpness, chromatic aberration, anamorphic bloom, dirty lens, and barrel lens distortion. It also changes the depth of field, removes blurry raindrops on-screen and speed lines when running. If there are some effects you still wish to keep, such as speed lines, you just need to delete those specific files in the data pack....

The incredibly talented Konkkola spent around 210 hours recreating Emil and the Protagonist from Nier Replicant using Wenzhou paper - without any cutting. These origami figures were made using traditional Japanese paper folding techniques, both separately folded from a single square sheet of paper. Following a process of deciding the paper allocation and layout for the figures, Konkkola planned out each complicated fold to bring the characters to life, including hair, fingers, weapons, and clothing....

Revealed at The Game Awards earlier this week, Transformers: Reactivate is the latest title coming from Gears Tactics and Brink developer Splash Damage. You remember Brink, right? It had parkour! Anyway, Transformers: Reactivate is Splash Damage’s latest title, and is apparently an online action game for one to four players, unsurprisingly letting you play as some of the series’ notable characters. As is par for the course for most games these days, the reveal trailer didn’t have any gameplay to show off, opting for a cinematic look at what we can expect from the title....

Zombies has always been the obscure, niche side of Call of Duty. Of all the different takes on Zombies every new studio tried, it was the original creators of the mode - Treyarch - who actually managed to finally create a wider appeal for it this year. Zombies in Black Ops Cold War brings a number of different twists, most notably the ability to bring in a custom loadout, but no change has been more impactful than streamlining the Easter Egg process for new players....

The news comes from a report published by VGC. Skull and Bones was originally announced back in 2017 with Ubisoft’s Singapore department at the helm. Apparently, it was set to blow up concepts introduced in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, extrapolating its naval mobility and combat in order to create an entire new IP based on them. After being mysteriously absent from all of Ubisoft’s presentations for over two years, it has been confirmed that the studio is rebooting the game and building it based on a live-service model....

The three principles he’s referring to are to “use the tech responsibly and build a safe environment” for players to explore the new frontier of NFTs, “only leverage energy-efficient proof-of-stake blockchains”, and “focus on the meaningful value propositions for players that benefit their gaming experience". It’s unclear how any of these three principles are being implemented at this time. Ubisoft’s first foray into NFTs launched as Ubisoft Quartz, an NFT platform for AAA games along with the first game to use them, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint....

We’ve already heard that Ubisoft isn’t intending to show Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake at E3 2021, and now we’ve learned another series that won’t make the cut: The Division. In a note on Twitter, the French publisher confirmed that the Tom Clancy-based multiplayer shooter series will be skipping the expo this year. And that’s a surprise because it was only recently that we heard about The Division: Heartland – a standalone, free-to-play game coming from Ubisoft in the not too distant future....
