As part of a call to investors, Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher publishers/developer CD Projekt talked a great deal about the upcoming game. Company executives reiterated that the game’s September release date remains unchanged. They also revealed that it has already been rated by rating agencies worldwide, after having been recently submitted. On a call to Polish investors, president Adam Kicinski said that the developer is planning about the same volume of DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 as it did with The Witcher 3, as translated by VGC....

Ubisoft has outlined a host of gameplay changes coming to Rainbow Six Siege in Year 6, which kicks off next month with Crimson Heist. One of the bigger changes discussed in a developer panel is the ability for dead players to control cameras and gadgets during the support phase. Ubisoft says this will “intensify” that phase, and allow dead players to still help out their alive teammates. The new feature will arrive later in Year 6....

Bungie made a point to overhaul Destiny 2’s in-game microtransactions store, Eververse, when the game went free-to-play ahead of the Shadowkeep launch. While many agree the current version is more transparent and fair than years past, recent in-game events have skewered things a little too much in Eververse’s favour, with a large assortment of items that can only be obtained through the store. In response, Bungie outlined more major changes for Eververse in the weekly blog post....

Logging into Destiny 2 right now, banners representing the progress of each class are clearly seeable at The Tower, and they hint at a big W going to the game’s intergalactic sorcerers. The Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition announcement at the PS5 Showcase was one of the show’s surprises. The Special Edition brings ray tracing support, an option for framerates up to 120fps, and playable Vergil. The $40 upgraded game will be available digitally in November, at the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Unfortunately, it’s not coming to PC. The only thing PC will be able to get out of this upgrade is Vergil, who will be available for purchase as DLC....

Steam Indie Celebration, a digital festival, will be streamed live on Steam this May, courtesy of the Central European industry event Digital Dragons. During the live festival, a selection of 50 games will be showcased over three days on a dedicated Steam homepage. You can expect live demos, developer interviews, and on the last day, an award ceremony will be held recognizing the top three games of the show. The ceremony will also announce the results of community-nominated awards....

EA doesn’t appear to have long-term plans for Star Wars: Squadrons. The publisher revealed that the budget-priced space shooter will not receive post-launch support standard with most games these days. Speaking to Upload VR, creative director Ian Frazier confirmed that what’s there right now is likely all we’re getting, as Squadrons wasn’t designed as a service game. “Never say never, so to speak, but as far as our philosophy goes we’re not trying to treat the game as a live service,” said Frazier....

A Warner Bros. spokesperson has told TechRadar that the only game the publisher is expecting to reveal during its showcase is Back 4 Blood. This information was also corroborated by the Summer Game Fest Twitter account. That seems to mean that the entire Waner Bros. presentation at E3 2021 will be dedicated to the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, with no other games sharing the limelight. Which is weird....

It’s well established at this point that id Software’s later iterations of its id Tech engine are some of the most optimised around. Both Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal manage to run at locked 60fps while pushing impressive visuals. On PC, things can be cranked up even higher, and id Software is ready for them to be pushed to the extreme. How extreme? Well, according to lead engine programmer Billy Kahn, Doom Eternal can run at 1,000fps, if there’s even a PC powerful enough to do that....
