Fares – known for his candid and energetic interviews – has told IGN that the naming convention of the latest Xbox machines is “fucking confusing” (thanks, Eurogamer). “That’s a fucking confusing name,” Fares said in the colorfully transcribed interview. “What the fuck’s going on with Microsoft? They’re losing it, man. What the fuck is going on? Like Series S, X, Mex, Next. I mean, who knows this? Come on. Madness. Call it the Microsoft Box and that’s it. I don’t know. It’s a total fucking mess. Trust me, even them, they’re confused in their offices. What is this X, S… I don’t know, what the fuck.” Our very own Alex Donaldson had some thoughts on Microsoft’s admittedly confusing naming conventions last year, where he outlined precisely why the Xbox One needs to be rotated away from the limelight in order for Microsoft to capitalize on the new hardware generation. Other industry commentators have also publically outlined their thoughts and feelings about the Xbox Series S/X name, too, and last year we saw punters accidentally pick up Xbox One X consoles instead of the Series X in confusion. So, on some level, Fares has a point. It’s not the first time Fares has made headlines for his interesting interview technique, either. He first attracted infamy for his ‘fuck the Oscars’ speech at 2017’s The Game Awards, and he’s also been an outspoken critic of players that obsess over length and replayability, and intentionally goes out of his way to “fuck shit up”. Fares’ next game, It Takes Two, promises to give players “a fresh new take on the challenges of working together” and launches for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in 2021.
