Though Rust is getting on in years – it first launched in Early Access for PC via Steam in December 2013 – the demand for the game is still pretty huge: in January, the game managed to smash Twitch and Steam peak users records thanks to a renewed popularity from the likes of Shroud, XQc, and Myth playing the game on the Offline TV server. The game, if you’re unfamiliar, is a pretty hardcore survival experience: players eager to survive will need to conquer thirst and hunger, battle the elements, create clothing and stay safe against hostile forces including other players, scientists, bears, wolves or even succumb to fire, drowning or radiation poisoning....

Originally starting life as a Kickstarter, since smashing its initial funding target, this indie sci-fi adventure has morphed into an ambitious and intriguing-looking horror title. Alongside revealing the highly anticipated release date, Serbian developer Ebb Software also released a development update on its Kickstarter page, giving fans a behind the scenes look at the development process....

Sam’s Story is now available for Metro Exodus as part of the Expansion Pass. It can also be purchased separately. The story follows former US Marine Sam, a Spartan Ranger who has worked under Colonel Miller since the nuclear war devastated Moscow, and followed Artyom in search of a world outside of the Metro. Here’s the synopsis: Sam had long dreamed of returning to his homeland, and perhaps even finding his father alive....

Announced over a year ago, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a narrative adventure game from German developer Daedalic Entertainment. Outside of confirming the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X, Daedalic never actually showed off any gameplay. Though we’ve yet to get any footage, we do have the first gameplay screens courtesy of a Gamestar preview. The shots show off the game’s interpretation of Mordor, but also how it represents Gollum’s multiple personalities....

Because everything has to be completely original these days, Sega is seemingly refusing to call Sonic Frontiers what it probably is, an open world game, opting for ‘open-zone’ instead. But in an interview with IGN, director Morio Kishimoto took the time to explain what the company means when it says ‘open-zone’. “Level-based platformers often have a world map. Our open-zone is a world map, only we’ve made it entirely playable,” said Kishimoto....

That’s the premise of Redfall – the now-delayed title coming from Arkane Austin for Xbox Series X/S and PC. You will be taking a trip to the quaint island town of the eponymous Redfall, Massachusetts, to try and fend off these science-experiments-gone-wrong and bring a semblance of sanity back to the area. It sounds a bit like a mix of From Dusk ‘til Dawn and The Lost Boys. And that sounds great....

The remake is currently being developed by Bloober Team, as previous rumours and leaks suggested. The developer is behind horror titles Layers of Fear and The Medium, which are both perfectly average, and makes me glad I toned down my expectations a tad before jumping into the transmission. I guess we can now all be relieved that those leaks can be laid to rest at least. Masahiro Ito, creature designer for Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3, (also art director on both 2, and 3) is finally back on board, too....

If you’re familiar with Astrid’s Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, you’ll be able to recognize the immense detail present in this reconstruction. From the moment you walk in, you can see the room off to the left where Astrid so often resides, while pressing straight through to the main chamber will bring you right up to an immediately familiar pool of water....

The company said its goal was to create a headset that was not only attractive, but it also paid close attention to the ergonomics and conducted “extensive testing” to ensure a comfortable feel no matter the size of your head. It also said the design team focused on balancing the headset weight and added a simple headband that can be adjusted. Other features include an adjustable scope that places the scope area closer or further away from the face, and the placement of the stereo headphone jack remains the same as the original PlayStation VR headset....

This is according to SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan, who recently told investors the standard edition of PS5 will be profitable by June. “I’m pleased to say that the PS5 standard edition will break even from next month’s production,” said Ryan (thanks, VGC). “And from then on, we project that it will gradually become increasingly profitable.” That’s a nice projection considering the console is said to be selling at a loss at the moment, which is normal as noted by industry analyst Daniel Ahmad....

Despite showing off some big details about the hardware (it’ll boast 4K HDR, 110-degree field of view visuals with foveated rendering), there was little information about the headset’s release date or more specific features. In a tweet, Axios journalist Stephen Totilo noted that he had asked Sony whether or not the hardware would launch in 2022 – to which the company wouldn’t give a straight answer. “I asked Sony if PSVR2 would be out in 2022 and if it’ll be backwards compatible with PSVR titles (something many people asked me to ask them yesterday)....

Seemingly out of nowhere, Flying Wild Hog revealed yet another game it has in development. Space Punks, a free-to-play top-down shooter RPG borrowing from Borderlands and Diablo, is the Hog’s first foray into the genre, having been mostly known for its first-person shooters. The studio that started out with the niche, retro shooter throwback Hard Reset a decade ago, has gone on to juggle various exciting projects simultaneously. Shadow Warrior 3 is on track for release this year....

We might have already known when the game was coming out thanks to one of those pesky leaks, but now we know the date officially. The trailer gave us another look at our slightly older, slightly hairier, and slightly more rugged Cal, who has a gun now, potentially taking the Souls-inspired combat more into the realm of Bloodborne than it was before. It also gave us our first taste of gameplay, which looks like more of the same, though that’s hardly anything to complain about if you like it when lightsabres do the thing....

The Tokyo Game Show is once again going to be an online event. That’s according to Gematsu, which reports that the industry conference is going to be held digitally between September 30 and October 3. Show organisers previously said that the event would return to being a physical event last year, when they boasted of the 31.6 million people who tuned in to TGS 2020 Online, but the on-going coronavirus situation has clearly caused a change in plans....
